Common
Sense Climate Solutions Summit
Virtually all
Americans share the goal of reducing all air emissions,
including greenhouse gas emissions. But if federal
climate plans stall in Congress or in the courts, what
common sense steps can state and local governments and
industry do to begin reducing emissions?
Wednesday's Common Sense Climate Solutions Summit
featured four sessions with experts who discussed
various aspects of the climate "solutions" challenges.,
including:
- An update on
possible action by the Congress, by U.S. Rep. John
Shadegg (Arizona)
- An explanation of
the legal and policy case against allowing the U.S.
EPA to regulation greenhouse gases under the current
Clean Air Act, led by the law firm of Holland and
Hart
- A discussion of the
potential consumer costs and job impacts of various
climate policy options, led by Deseret Power CEO
Kimball Rasmussen and Congress of Racial Equality
Spokesman Niger Innis
- A panel of
technology experts and state government
representatives who will outline a variety of
technologies and processes that are helping to
address climate emissions concerns right now

3: The Consumer Cost and Jobs Equation

An
inescapable part of the climate solutions debate is how
to minimize consumer cost increases
and jobs impacts of
any climate policy solutions. Kimball Rasmussen of
Utah-based Deseret Power and Niger Innis of
the Congress of Racial Equality discussed this
hot-button topic and try to separate "facts" from
"wishful thinking" in this area.
